![]() ![]() ![]() When a source file only contains known subtitles, it's simple to set up subtitle behavior in Handbrake, so it correctly passes through (not burn-in) the subtitles you need. Once a subtitle has been finalized, you can either manually load it into Handbrake, fine for one or two encodes, or you can mux each SRT subtitle into its corresponding MKV source file. It's an excellent tool that will allow you to create flawless subtitles, even down to changing frame rates, if a downloaded subtitle comes from a source with a different frame rate. This remains true regardless of output container.Įvery encode I create, I either download, from Subscene or OpenSubtitles, and edit/correct an existing SRT subtitle, or use OCR to extract a VOB subtitle from a disc and convert it to an SRT.įor both SRT editing and OCR conversion, I use SubtitleEdit. If you want consistent handling of subtitles, especially when batch encoding, the best way is to use SRT subtitles, when switchable subtitles are required, or SSA subtitles when you want to burn in a subtitle. In the end, I've fixed the affected encodes by removing the "Foreign Audio Scan" line but I worry that I'll be missing out on necessary subtitles if I do that for everything.Īnyway, just looking for tips on how any individuals solve this particular problem. However, I am able to correctly determine that it will be an issue in the logs after the subtitle scan when it says something like this: + color profile: 6-1-6 * subtitle track 1, English (Wide Screen) (track 1, id 0x21bd, Picture) -> Render/Burn-inīut that makes it more problematic to do several movies in batches. The live preview doesn't exhibit this behavior. What's tricky is I can't necessarily determine when this problem will arise. As I understand it, this isn't so much a problem with hand brake but of the master recording marking some of their subtitles as "Forced". I've located this issue to hand brake's foreign audio scan subtitle setting. Using the default preset "Fast 1080p30" I'm encountering an issue with some movies I'm encoding where the entire movie has had the director commentary or english closed captions burned in. ![]()
